A Mother's Struggle to Build a Secure Future
Losing her husband left Swapna Khatun facing the difficult responsibility of raising her young child on her own. With an uncertain source of income, she worried about how she would manage daily expenses and provide regular meals for her child.
Despite these challenges, Swapna had a valuable skill: she knew how to sew. With the right materials and an opportunity to put her skills to use, she could begin working towards earning an income independently.
Turning Sewing Skills into an Opportunity
Recognizing Swapna's circumstances and her ability to sew, Do Something Foundation (DSF) stepped forward to support her efforts towards self-reliance.
DSF provided her with sewing fabrics and materials so she could undertake sewing work and earn money. The initiative aims to help her use her existing skills to support her household and care for her child.
Supporting Women Towards Self-Reliance
For widowed mothers and other women facing financial hardship, opportunities to earn an income can be an important step towards greater independence. Supporting existing skills can help create pathways to livelihood opportunities while preserving dignity and self-confidence.
Through its income-generation initiatives, DSF works to help vulnerable individuals build more sustainable livelihoods. The support provided to Swapna Khatun represents an effort to help a mother move towards a more hopeful and financially secure future for herself and her child.
