For people living on very limited incomes, even treatment at a government hospital can become difficult when additional medicines and medical supplies need to be purchased.
A mosque muezzin, who earns only BDT 4,000 per month, was suffering from gallbladder stones and needed an operation. He was admitted to a government hospital where the surgery itself was available free of charge.
However, some of the required medicines and other medical items had to be purchased from outside the hospital. Due to his extremely limited income, he was unable to arrange the necessary money.
As a result, despite being admitted to the hospital and being scheduled for surgery, his treatment was at risk of being delayed because of the additional expenses.
Recognising his financial hardship and urgent medical need, the Do Something Foundation (DSF) stepped forward to support him.
DSF provided BDT 20,000 in cash medical assistance to help cover the necessary medicines and other treatment-related expenses associated with his gallbladder surgery.
For someone earning only BDT 4,000 a month, an unexpected medical expense can place an enormous burden on the entire family. This timely assistance aims to help him continue his treatment without further delay.
Through its Medical Aid programme, the Do Something Foundation continues to support vulnerable individuals who face financial barriers to essential healthcare.
