The Do Something Foundation (DSF) has provided BDT 566,000 in medical assistance to a talented and financially disadvantaged final-year MBBS student of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College, who is suffering from Liver Cirrhosis due to Budd–Chiari Syndrome and requires a liver transplant.
A Dream of Becoming a Doctor Now Faces a Fight for Life
Every person carries dreams in their heart. For a final-year medical student, one of the greatest dreams is to complete years of hard work and finally become a doctor—serving patients, supporting family members and bringing relief to loved ones who have sacrificed so much.
The young man in this story carried the same dream. He is a final-year MBBS student at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College. Coming from a poor but talented family in the haor region of Sunamganj, he worked hard and overcame many challenges to reach one of the most important stages of his medical education.
Perhaps he too dreamed that only a few more days remained before he would finally become a doctor. Perhaps he imagined supporting his family and ensuring better treatment for his loved ones. His father has been suffering from Stroke and Chronic Kidney Disease. Like any loving son, he may have dreamed that after becoming a doctor, he would be able to provide better treatment and care for his father.
But life took an unexpected and devastating turn.At a time when he should have been preparing to complete his medical education and begin his journey as a doctor, he found himself facing a serious battle for his own life.He has been diagnosed with Liver Cirrhosis due to Budd–Chiari Syndrome. His condition is serious, and he requires a liver transplant. The estimated cost of his treatment is approximately BDT 5,000,000 (50 lakh)—an enormous amount that is far beyond the financial capacity of his family. For a financially disadvantaged family already struggling with the medical expenses associated with his father's illnesses, arranging such a large amount for treatment is an extremely difficult challenge.
Recognizing the seriousness of his condition, the Do Something Foundation (DSF) stepped forward to provide medical assistance of BDT 566,000.Although this assistance cannot cover the entire cost of the required treatment and liver transplant, it represents an important contribution towards his treatment and ongoing fight for life.
This medical assistance was made possible through the generous support of Anonymous & DSM Family. Their compassion and generosity demonstrate how collective support can bring hope to individuals and families during their most difficult moments.
Today, this young man is not only a medical student preparing to become a doctor—he is also a patient fighting for his own life. His story reminds us how quickly illness can change a person's life. A young man who dreamed of treating others is now in urgent need of treatment himself. Yet, with timely medical care, compassion and collective support, there remains hope.
The Do Something Foundation (DSF) sincerely hopes that this talented student will receive the necessary treatment, recover from his illness and one day fulfil his dream of becoming a doctor.Through its healthcare and medical support programmes, DSF continues to stand beside vulnerable patients and families, providing assistance, compassion and hope during critical times.
