The Do Something Foundation (DSF) successfully organised its 127th Medical Camp in the remote char area of Mechra Union, Kazipur Upazila, Sirajganj. Despite a long and challenging journey from Dhaka, the medical team travelled to the hard-to-reach community to provide much-needed healthcare services. The camp was funded by Abundance of Good Inc., USA.
Bringing Healthcare to One of the Most Remote Communities
Access to healthcare remains a major challenge for people living in Bangladesh's remote char areas. Difficult transportation, geographical isolation, and the distance from hospitals often prevent patients from receiving timely medical care.
To bring healthcare services closer to people in such underserved communities, the Do Something Foundation (DSF) organised its 127th Medical Camp in a remote char area of Mechra Union under Kazipur Upazila in Sirajganj District.
The medical camp was held on 14 April 2026.
A Long Journey to Reach the Community
The DSF medical team travelled from Dhaka and required approximately nine hours to reach the remote char. The journey itself was challenging, as the area is difficult to access and transportation facilities are limited.
Upon reaching the char, the team had to work in intense heat and dusty conditions. Travelling through the sandy terrain was physically demanding, with the dust covering the team's clothes and hair.
Despite these challenges, the doctors remained motivated and happy to reach a community where access to qualified medical professionals is extremely limited.
For many people living in these remote areas, the presence of an MBBS-qualified doctor is a rare opportunity.
“We Often Seek Treatment Only When the Situation Becomes Critical”
Local residents shared the reality of healthcare access in their community.
According to them, illnesses are often not treated seriously until a patient's condition becomes critical. Travelling to a hospital is extremely difficult because of the remote location and poor transportation facilities.
In some cases, seriously ill patients must be physically carried by others over difficult terrain before they can begin their journey to a hospital in a distant town or city.
These challenges highlight the importance of bringing medical services directly to communities that remain beyond the easy reach of healthcare facilities.
Healthcare Where It Is Needed Most
Through the 127th Medical Camp, DSF continued its commitment to reaching vulnerable and underserved communities with essential healthcare support.
The programme demonstrates the importance of taking healthcare services beyond cities and established healthcare centres and bringing qualified medical professionals closer to people living in geographically isolated areas.
DSF believes that access to basic healthcare should not depend on where a person lives. Even in the most remote communities, people deserve timely medical attention, professional consultation, and compassionate care.
